Join one of the few American Animal Hospital Accredited (AAHA) veterinary referral hospitals in Massachusetts!
Angell West is seeking a full time Staff Cardiologist. We are a 24-hour emergency and referral hospital in Waltham, MA, a small city 11 miles from downtown Boston. We are a satellite hospital of Angell Animal Medical Center, an emergency, referral and primary care hospital that has been operating in Boston for more than a century. The practice is ideally situated within easy reach of Metro-west communities and those north and south of Boston, with high quality primary care veterinary hospitals serving as our referral base.
Our facility and resources
The hospital is approximately 10,000 square feet and has been recently renovated. Cardiology equipment includes a Philips Affiniti echo unit, portable Vivid i echo unit, Dextronix electronic VET-ECG system, in-house telemetric monitoring, ambulatory ECG systems (holter and event monitoring), and petMAP and Doppler blood pressure systems. The Boston practice has a fully equipped cardiac catheterization lab including c-arm fluoroscopy with power injection for angiography. Our Waltham cardiologists have the opportunity to take cases into Boston for cardiac catheterization and pacemaker implantation (with the assistance of the Boston team). Angell West is also equipped with 3 spacious surgical suites, a bank of oxygen cages, ultrasound, endoscopy, and laparoscopy. Digital radiography is performed on-site in Waltham with read out of all films by the boarded radiologists in Boston. Labwork and samples are sent twice daily to the fully equipped Angell-Boston laboratory staffed by boarded pathologists, and lab results are also available from in-house Abaxis, NOVA, and Procyte machines at Angell West. We will be expanding our physical space in 2018 to almost double our square footage, and we are planning the addition of new physical rehabilitation equipment – including a pool and underwater treadmill - and services as part of this growth.
Our collegial staff includes an emergency/critical care department (2 specialists, 9 intern trained emergency doctors), internal medicine (two specialists), surgery (one specialist), avian-exotics (2 specialists), cardiology (one specialist and rotating doctors from Boston), neurology (appointments offered monthly), and behavior (appointments offered monthly). Collaboration is one of our core values, and our surveyed team members consistently rate the people with whom they work as one of the best parts of their job. Numerous professional development offerings include weekly seminars, frequent lunch and learns, several hours of journal club, and didactic learning (primarily at our Boston practice).
What makes us unique: values-based, non-profit, Fear Free emphasis and more..
Angell West is operated by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), a non-profit, values-based organization with a focus on client service, patient care, and life-work balance. We hold ourselves to an extremely high standard of excellence, another of our core values, as evidenced by AAHA referral accreditation for our specialty services, which differentiates us from many of the other referral hospitals in the area. Continual improvement is part of our culture, and we are now pursuing Fear Free certification to aid us in providing the best experience possible for our patients. This position provides a unique opportunity to practice at a non-corporate referral hospital in an intimate client-focused setting, but with numerous amenities from the larger Angell Boston hospital as support. We are looking for an individual who shares our values and is seeking a smaller hospital based setting with a busy clinical cardiology practice. Our cardiology service is extremely popular, with appointments typically filled many weeks in advance. The caseload will come from appointments, in-house referral, and the emergency service.
Boston is a world class city with easy access to beaches, oceanfront and the mountains, and there are many cultural opportunities as well as famous Boston sports teams.
