Veterinarian need for AAHA certified small animal hospital in NE Ohio, (Salem). We are looking for a Full-Time or Part-Time veterinarian for a growing, long established and very busy small animal practice providing quality medicine to a large client base. We are a full-service hospital with in-house lab, digital radiology/ultrasound, large treatment area, full surgery suite and all the equipment you need to manage your patients. Our services include Wellness, Sick, Surgery, Urgent care, Critical care, Intensive care, and daytime Emergency services. Our staff are dedicated and experienced so doctors can leverage their time. We are located in NE Ohio about 1.5 hours west of Pittsburgh, PA, 1 hour from Cleveland and 20 minutes south of Youngstown. This may be a small town but there are lots of activities and community events in town and near by.

We have a full in house lab, ultrasound, dental machines, digital x-ray machine, 2 large surgery suites, isolation room, large treatment area, with 3 ICU units and critical care cages, with facility to house up to 34 patients. We do provide an on call service. On call duties begin when we close out to midnight and can be limited to discussion of client's options such as understanding treatment sent home, being seen the next day or referred to animal ER centers or specialty centers near by. Minor emergencies can be seen by doctors after hours as an emergency if that is what is decided but referral is acceptable. We are open 7 days a week with doctors sharing weekends and after hour calls. The average work week is 40 - 45 hours per week. The community is supportive, and we pull clients in from as far as 50 miles away. However, we have clients that travel all over so we also have clients in Canada, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Washington and Hawaii.
With Mentoring and additional training for new grads, candidate will be able to manage small animal preventative care, surgery cases, internal medicine cases and daytime emergency cases. Surgery and emergency skills are taught or mentored. Applicants must be able to interpret in-house labs, eventually run labs themselves such as chemistries, CBC, Coag panels, fecals, urinalysis, etc., place IV catheters, administer IV fluids, administer oral, IV, IM and SQ medications, evaluate radiographs and ultrasound, administer anesthesia, place endotracheal tubes, perform surgery, calculate proper anesthesia dosages, supervise dental prophy on dogs and cats, perform extraction of disease teeth when needed, complete medical records and assignment of treatment protocols,be able to discuss disease and medication with clients. Individuals should have strong teamwork and communication skills; be able to work in a fast pace work environment; can provide staff with written and verbal directions, able to multi-task and use any computer, be able to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, maneuver for long durations of time; and able to lift and carry 50lbs. Should have flexibility for schedules and must be able to work any day including weekends based on agreed upon schedule.
Additional Salary Information: $75,000 - $80,000 annual salary with $5000.00 sign on bonus depending on experience. Excellent benefits including paid time off, paid CE, licensing fees, copay on health insurance, liability/malpractice insurance 100% paid, and more. To balance work and life the average work week is 40 – 45 hours/week. Veterinarians work every 3rd weekend. If veterinarian does see an after hour emergency, they are compensated by receiving all of the after hour ER exam fee as a bonus. New Graduates preferred, experienced Veterinarians welcomed. Mentoring and additional training is provided for all aspects of veterinary medicine, surgery, client communication and business. ProSal type salary is also available if wished using 20% of production as total salary earned. We have a large waiting room split into two sections to divide dogs and cats. We want to extend our hours and offer urgent and emergency care out through midnight this year. We are open 7 days a week with doctors sharing weekends. The average work week is 40 - 55 hours per week. The community is supportive and we pull clients in from 30 - 50 miles away.
Community profile: The hospital is in a small town that is minutes away from several large metropolitian areas (Youngstown, Akron, Canton, Cleveland and Pittsburg). There are small manufacturing companies and smaller service companies provide jobs for the area residents. Lordstown GM plant and Delphi are within 20 minutes for additional jobs for area residents. The downtown is an active and viable environment with friendly and helpful business people. There is a community theater for those interested in musical and plays. There is a movie theater for those interested in movies. There are two country clubs and a golf course, a community center with gym facilities and pool, and several small local lakes for boating and fishing. Parks and hiking facilities are close by. The grade school and secondary schools are excellent for those individuals interested in them for children. Kent State University has a branch just outside Salem for more advanced studies. There is an active sports program and after school activities and clubs in abundance. Youngstown State University is within 15 to 20 minutes away. Cars and trucks are a big thing in our area and we have several community activities associated with them. Quaker Raceway is just outside town for the car enthusiast. Major highways to all parts of the country within minutes of Salem. We may be a small community but we have much to offer.
