Come work in the Sunshine State at a highly progressive and very busy non-profit shelter organization with a diverse caseload, high volume spay/neuter and shelter medicine evaluation and treatment. The SPCA of Brevard is looking for a shelter vet!
This position provides leadership and direction to our shelter staff; handles all shelter medical operations and ensures sound and humane veterinary medical practices. We house over 300 animals at any given time and position will provide veterinary expertise in accordance with the organizational policies and procedures. Assist the Executive Director in establishing and maintaining all health related protocols to maximize adoptions and minimize euthanasia.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Diagnosis and treatment of disease; disease identification and surveillance with a focus on infection diseases (specifically URI and ringworm).
Perform high volume spay/neuter surgeries on our shelter animals; other surgeries as needed including trauma cases.
Keep abreast of developments in the field of veterinary medicine, particularly the most innovative concepts of shelter medicine.
Performs evaluations to determine the health of individual animals and/or overall health of the animals at our shelter.
Make recommendations on disease control, sanitation, clinic procedures.
Ensure positive public relations and customer service practices.
Directs veterinary technicians and assistants in the daily performance of their duties.
Must have a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited university school and be licensed in the State of Florida.
DEA and state license required to purchase controlled drugs.
Previous animal shelter experience a plus.
Must have previous high volume spay/neuter experience.
Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills required.
Possess the ability to work with people in a variety of high stress situations.
Some evenings and weekends may be required.
