Beckoning Cat Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit spay/neuter and wellness clinic for cats. All cats are welcome (pets, stray, ferals, barn cats, etc.) and we have no geographic or income limitations. Our mission statement is "Community Solutions for Cats".
While our focus is on spaying/neutering cats, we also try educate people on cat care and colony maintenance, as well as the use of TNR as the only humane and effective way to control the cat overpopulation.
Since opening the clinic in Jan. 2014 our vet and her assistants have spayed or neutered over 15,500 cats. Our local SPCA has stopped their mass euthanasia of cats and is now wanting to work with us on TNR, which they were vehemently opposed to at one time.
Candidate will also handle a limited number of wellness appointments for vaccines and URTI treatment after surgeries.
We recently received a grant from Petco and have been able to s/n close to 100 feral/stray cats at no cost to the owners. We will not turn away a cat in need if we are able to help it, regardless of the owner's ability to pay. We consider our clinic to be of high quality even though it is low cost. All cats receive physicals prior to surgery (when possible) and owner's receive a copy of their animal's record.
If you are tired of the corporate bean counters and tired of working 80 hour weeks, this job is for you. Our vet assistants are well trained, competent and a great group of people to work around. There is no on call or weekends for full time (unless you want it!). We try to have fun while doing a great service. We have saved so many cats of imminent death.
Applicant must have strong surgical background, preferable 3-5 years as a minimum. You will average 15-20 spay or neuters per day, with some days being more.
In addition to spay/neuter, we also perform enucleations, amputions, entropian surgeries, among others as the need arises. You must be proficient with handling cryptorchid and pyometras and other complications that may arise.
This can be a fast paced environment and multi-tasking is a must.
Must have or have the ability to get a DEA license.
Full time position is primarily a Monday through Friday, 40-45 hour position. Currently it is an 8:30-5 schedule, but we can be flexible with that.
Part time would primarily be fill in during the week and Saturdays and/or Sundays.
We are currently open Monday through Friday, but have a two month backlog and would like to expand to weekends.
Additional Salary Information: Salary is for full time and would be dependent on whether health benefits were needed, as well as number of spay/neuters able to safely perform in a day. Part time would be hourly. As a nonprofit I believe this full time position would qualify towards your school loan forgiveness.
