The Humane Society of Union County (HSUC), a 501(c)3 organization, is looking for a full time veterinarian for our high volume, high quality spay/neuter and wellness clinic in Monroe, NC.
HSUC offers competitive wages and a continuing education allowance. Our support staff members are friendly, cooperative and dedicated individuals. Responsibilities will include performing high volume spays and neuters; providing vaccine and basic wellness services; developing medical protocols; administering basic veterinary services for Humane Society fosters; and a willingness to lead, train, and develop staff. Occasional weekend events required.
Our new veterinarian must actively promote the vision and mission of the HSUC by providing high quality care and services. All surgical patients must be physically examined to ensure their surgical candidacy, and patients must be closely monitored and examined to ensure anesthetic safety and recovery. All HSUC foster animals must be examined/treated on an as needed basis.
Candidate must be a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD), with a license in good standing with the state veterinary board. License with the Drug Enforcement Agency required.

Candidates must be able to:
Perform S/N surgeries, including use of all standard medical instruments and equipment.
Explain physical examination findings and communicate to the client a diagnosis of the pet’s problems; generate and present a treatment plan for the pet to the client; educate clients on preventative health care, including vaccines and appropriate nutritional products and flea/tick prevention.
Perform basic wellness services.
Delegate duties and responsibilities to technical support staff to ensure proper care and comfort to Clinic patients.
Stand for long periods of time while performing surgery requiring concentration and manual dexterity.
Lift dogs and cats of all sizes on a daily basis.
Oversee handling and recording of controlled substances by clinic team (vet tech/clinic manager only).
Learn and implement new S/N techniques, skills, information, etc. as they become available.
Promote continuing development of medical care through continued education.
Keep abreast of veterinary concerns and trends in the animal welfare movement.
Attend admin and team meetings, as well as occasional HSUC Board meetings.
