Immediate opening for a resident veterinarian at Hanover Shoe Farms, the greatest name in harness racing! Hanover Shoe Farms currently stands 10 stallions and maintains a broodmare band of over 400 mares with around 340 due to foal in 2019. Veterinary work is shared with two other resident veterinarians, the distributions of the responsibilities can be tailored to the applicant's interest (more or less palpation, working with individual cases, etc). Responsibilities include reproductive, emergency, and general veterinary care of the farm's resident mares, foals, yearlings, and stallions. A fully equipped practice vehicle will be supplied along with ultrasound, a neonatal hyperbaric oxygen chamber, DR equipment (shared between the resident veterinarians), and a dedicated assistant. There is also access to a hospital barn with a hoist for an Anderson equine sling. Weekends and On-call will be shared equally between the 3 resident veterinarians. The workload is generally heavy in the spring during the busy foaling and breeding season but extended vacation is available during the off-season. Applicants will need to be able to acquire a Pennsylvania veterinary license. New graduates are welcome to apply; salary will be based on experience. Benefits include health insurance, on-farm housing, practice vehicle, and 401k.
