The School of Veterinary Science at Massey University, Palmerston North invites applications for a permanent position commencing approximately 1 November 2019, in Equine Internal Medicine. Our AVMA–accredited veterinary programme is world renowned, providing quality, research-led education. Our recently constructed equine hospital offers modern facilities for clinical service, teaching and research. In addition, staff have access to excellent streams of research funding, as well as opportunities to participate in established programs of research in equine athletic development and performance, wastage, and other aspects of equine health and education.
In addition to our veterinary medicine and veterinary technology programmes, Massey University has a strong equine science programme, and important affiliations with Equestrian Sports New Zealand.
This is an academic role with the successful candidate rotating between clinical service, teaching and research. Clinical service includes providing services to clients and patients, instruction to veterinary and veterinary technology students, supervising clinic interns, and either leading or supporting clinical research. The successful applicant is expected to integrate research into their practice of medicine where applicable. Time allocated away from the clinic is expected to be utilised for scholarly activities such as preparation of teaching materials, continuing education and participation in research. If the successful applicant is preparing for board examinations, study time can be negotiated as part of non-clinical duties. We would like an experienced medicine clinician with a strong clinical focus. Recently graduated residents will be considered.
You must possess a veterinary degree immediately registerable with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand. You will have a strong service focus, both towards clients of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and towards our undergraduate and postgraduate students. In addition, you will show initiative, flexibility, and excellent communication and team skills.
You will either be:
Board Certified by the American (Large Animal) or European (Equine) Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine; or
a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in an Equine Medicine discipline; or
eligible to sit for certification or fellowship of the above and eligible for registration with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand.
