The San Francisco SPCA is looking to hire an overnight emergency veterinarian on either a full time or part time basis. Since 1868, the San Francisco SPCA has led San Francisco to its present status as one of the most humane cities in the world. We accomplished this through dedication, innovation and collaboration; and we’re looking to hire bright, passionate people who embrace those values. The overnight emergency veterinarian position is located at the Pacific Heights campus of the San Francisco SPCA. This campus encompasses 24 hour emergency services that are closely integrated with general practice services and is also the overnight receiving hospital for our sister campus in the Mission District. The hospital has provided exceptional patient and client care in the Pacific Heights neighborhood for decades and we are always looking to expand our abilities, services, and patient care on a daily basis. The San Francisco SPCA provides a robust financial assistance program. This program allows veterinarians to provide care for many patients that would otherwise have to be turned away. The ability to provide these services to our local community in-need leads to immense professional and emotional gratification for our staff veterinarians. Diagnostics and treatment options are plentiful within this facility including ultrasound, flexible videoscopy, rigid videoscopy, video otoscopy, digital radiography, Nova electrolyte/chemistry analyzer, and IDEXX in-house laboratory suite among others. There is consistent surgical specialist support overnight in addition to the ability for emergency radiology interpretation services. This hospital has a long history of strong support from fellow veterinarians and management staff. We have a willingness, and more importantly, a strong desire to collaborate and enhance each other’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. We are always excited to have a new face in the crowd, as we know that they are going to bring new perspectives and bits of knowledge that will allow us to become a more complete team. The medical director position has time allocated for coaching. So if you are interested in improving your abilities for soft tissue surgeries, abdominal ultrasounds, or orthopedic surgeries then we can develop a plan to improve or educate you on those skills. There is some overlap of emergency shifts in the evening which allows for less stress and smaller caseload when your shift begins. All of our veterinarians are expected to work some holidays and weekends so those necessary burdens of a 24 hour practice are shared and diluted. The starting salary for this position depends on the length and breadth of experience. Eligible for full benefits package including: PTO and holiday pay, medical, dental & vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, tax-deferred retirement plan, pre-tax commute expense deductions, discounted veterinary care, employee discount on retail, pet supplies, and dog training classes. Financial support and time-off for continuing education.
