The Internship in Veterinary Integrative Medicine & Rehabilitation at the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at Louisiana State University is designed to provide 1 year of intensive postgraduate training in the discipline of Veterinary Integrative Medicine & Rehabilitation and to prepare the intern for a residency in Veterinary Integrative Medicine & Rehabilitation. The clinical facilities of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) will be the primary training site for this program. The training program will use primarily faculty from the Integrative Medicine & Rehabilitation Service in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences as mentors.
Provide clinical care in the role of a veterinarian, i.e. examine patients, order tests, make diagnoses, prescribe treatments, and communicate with clients and referring veterinarians, for patients presented to their Specialty Service.
Participate in the clinical and tutorial instruction of Phase II students, including daily student rounds; and other duties as assigned
Participate in their Specialty Service Journal club, attend all HO Rounds/Seminar (VMED 7001) sessions and other seminars which are requirements of the Intern’s home Specialty Service.
Provide clinical care in the role of a veterinarian in the emergency duty schedule (evening, weekend and holiday duty on a rotating schedule) with other members of their Specialty Service.
Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine or equivalent
Candidates should have successfully completed the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) or its equivalent.
Certification in acupuncture and/or rehabilitation is preferred and strongly recommended, ideally to be completed prior to or within the first 3 months of the program start.
Candidates completed a rotating internship in medicine and surgery or its equivalent post-graduate experience is preferred.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and "on-call"/relief shifts. Per PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan. Required to be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach and/or climb a ladder, kneel or sit on the floor, bending, squatting, and/or twisting. *Due to the nature of this position and/or responsibilities, this position is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67*
