Role and Responsibilities
We are an emergency and critical care referral hospital that treats patients 24/7/365 days a year. The ideal candidate is available to work 8, 10- or 12-hour shifts scheduled during weekdays, weekends, overnights and holidays. Also, s/he must be comfortable working with and handling animals and communicating clinical and non-clinical information to clients (pet owners).
Work closely with the Chief Medical Officer, COO/Hospital Administrator, Director of Technical Services, and other team members to contribute to the advancement of the technical team through exceptional teaching and involvement. Demonstrate extraordinary leadership to direct and supervise the technical staff to uphold organizational values, maximize operational efficiency, and promote standards of safety and excellence through education and professional service for patients, clients, and coworkers. This position has an expectation for future growth and promotion.
Maintain proficiency of veterinary technician competencies. Work scheduled administrative and clinical shifts. Facilitate staff training for technicians and assistants. Support and mentor technician supervisors and team members from the point of onboarding through ongoing professional development / continuing education. Review, update, and refine content for company-wide clinical and safety training programs; act as the primary point of contact for educational concerns and questions; complete required documentation to support validation of clinical competency and ongoing professional development. Teach technician training classes along with Supervisors and the Director of Technical Services. Document the status of individual staff training and updates as applicable through written materials and retain clear documentation on employee accomplishments. Demonstrate timely and accurate follow through on all training programs.
The Lead Technician – Training Manager is responsible and accountable to function as an initial administrative point of contact when no other assigned manager is on duty/on site. Contribute ideas and think “outside of the box” to support clinical activities and process improvements that ensure compliance and safety and advance operations. Collaborate with technician supervisors in overlapping areas of clinical administration oversight such as technician scheduling, quality improvement initiatives, new hire orientation and onboarding, compliance & safety, employee engagement, ongoing technician learning & development, and participate with the Director of Technical Services and Manager, Human Resources in technician performance management and annual review discussions. Close engagement & collaboration with the Hospital Administrator and Director of Technical Services is required to ensure the ongoing success of this critical functional area.
•Possess clinical mastery of all responsibilities within the treatment area (i.e. IHF, OP, ICU, lab, and surgery)
•Obtain in-depth knowledge and understanding of CEVC clinical and operational policies
•Apply creative problem-solving skills and exercise sound and accurate judgment
• Role model leadership behaviors and demonstrate support for organizational values
•Display a passion for knowledge-sharing and a positive, team-first attitude! (“team” includes clinical and non-clinical staff)
•Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills (individual and group settings)
•Must exhibit professional presence and poise under pressure. As a leader, this is required given the dynamic and stressful nature of emergency medicine
•History of positive annual reviews with no current job performance concerns
Able to handle 20-35 lbs. 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 10-20 lbs., 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting up to 120 lbs. with assistance of others (occasionally); carrying of objects up to 35 lbs.; frequent standing, walking and kneeling; occasional sitting; close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
Factors affecting environmental conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: blood-borne pathogen exposure; bio-hazardous waste chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors; communicable diseases; electrical shock; floor Surfaces; hot/cold temperatures; indoor/outdoor conditions; latex; lighting; patient care/handling injuries; radiation; shift work; use of personal protective equipment.
