My one doctor practice has become busy enough to hire a part time veterinarian. I would like to have the candidate work several relief shifts first. If they were a good fit I would offer them a part time position.
The ideal candidate would have a friendly demeanor and provide excellent client communication. They would be very comfortable seeing routine appointments (vaccines, wellness checkups...) as well as sick patients including the occasional emergency. They would also be interested in performing dentals and routine surgeries (spays, neuters) as well as more complicated surgeries (foreign body, splenectomy, GDV). If the candidate does not have significant experience with surgery I would provide assistance and have them scrub in while I perform the surgery. I have been a small animal veterinarian for almost 20 years, including 10 years of emergency experience, and am comfortable with most procedures. There are specialists nearby for referral as needed. We also work with a traveling surgeon, cardiologist, and ultrasonographer.
The candidate would also work well with my staff. I have a small staff that works well together. We are all cross trained on all aspects of running the clinic. As owner of the clinic no task is considered below me (if a phone needs to be answered, a counter needs to be wiped down, or blood needs to be drawn I pitch in and help out when and where I am needed). I expect the same from my coworkers. The ideal candidate would be familiar with Avimark and be able to write complete medical records/SOAPs that are easily understood by another veterinarian. They would also provide well written and easily understood discharges for every patient. They would be confident in their abilities and have a laid back/low stress personality. The candidate would show up to work on time, promote a healthy, friendly work environment and also take time to have a life outside of veterinary medicine.
Ideally the candidate would have several years of small animal experience, but I will consider a less experienced doctor. I will provide mentoring and advice on cases when asked. I take pride in my clinic, my staff, my clients, and my patients. If I feel a case will need extra time (sick patient that might need radiographs, blood work...) I schedule myself so I have the time. It is not uncommon to postpone or reschedule appointments to allow for an emergent surgery or procedure. Our clinic has a laid back atmosphere, but we can be busy. The candidate should be able to "roll with it". If a client has a pet that should be seen that day, we figure out a way to work it in.
If you possess the skills listed above and would like to work in a hospital that promotes a positive work environment and will allow you time to work up cases, perform surgeries, and expand your skill and knowledge base please respond to this ad.
DVM degree or equivalent
Relief would need to provide proof of insurance
