Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center
EXTERNSHIP INFORMATION:Max number of externs: 2 Goals of Externship: The goal of our externship is to expose to students to our varied caseload with both an in-hospital, boarded specialist component as well as an ambulatory medicine component. We also have a busy, after-hours emergency caseload that allows for more participation of the extern, especially as we develop more comfort with their knowledge base and skill set. Other Information: We recommend at least a two week block, but most students benefit from a 3-4 week block if possible. For students interested in application for the internship program, a two week visit is highly recommended. This allows for a working interview, for both the extern and the doctors. Application Process: Please send a resume/CV and a letter of intent expressing goals and areas of interest to Dr. Rachel Liepman (drliep@gmail.com) with availability and/or preferred date ranges. Availability: Year-round, but busiest season between October to June; if interested in internship opportunities, please prioritize visiting by October-November of the year prior to the internship beginning. Insurance Requirements: AVMA PLIT proof of insurance or comparable insurance required Living Quarters: an extern room on-site with full bathroom is available to visiting externs. Residence at the clinic during the externship is strongly encouraged to take advantage of after-hours experiences. A basic kitchen with microwave, refrigerator space and sink/dishwasher is available to share. Estimated Workload: Externs will be expected to assist with treatments as deemed appropriate on hospitalized patients. The majority of the time will be assisting during daytime appointments either in-hospital or on an ambulatory basis. There are opportunities to scrub into surgeries and other procedures as our comfort level increases on an individual basis. Internship Available? Yes
