CityVet is proud to participate in the Student Externship program for veterinary medicine students
seeking clinical experience in a small animal setting. We have 13 clinics located in the Dallas, Fort
Worth and Denver areas that service dogs, cats and some exotic animals.


While you are with our team, we will give you the opportunity to engage with your Lead DVM or
Partner DVM, to work through cases together and apply your knowledge base to help find answers
to the clinical problems our patients may face while you are present. Each Lead/Partner DVM may
have a unique way of involving you in the treatment of different cases based on their comfort level of
student extern interaction with the patients and their families. 

Our plan for you is to see you step up to being an expert in your field and be the doctor you have been studying to become, by:

  • You will be trained on triaging patients, intaking their medical records and helping to establish a plan of care
  • You will draw, run and help interpret the laboratory results
  • You will assist with capturing and interpreting radiographs
  • You will communicate to the clients the treatment options, the established plan of care and how to care for the animal once the treatment has been decided upon
  • You will scrub into surgery and assist the Lead or Partner DVM with all appointed responsibilities outlined by the Veterinarian
