Seeking an experienced full time veterinary technician (RVTs and LVTs are encouraged to apply) for a 6 doctor AAHA accredited small animal hospital in the Atlanta/Westside area. Technical Duties –collect specimens and performs routine laboratory procedures (including hematology, chemistry, fecal flotation, blood smears, ear and skin cytology), take radiographs (including barium series), assists in surgery as needed, triage emergencies, perform venipunctures, place iv catheters, subcutaneous and IV fluid therapy administration, nail trims, ear cleanings, anal glands, and suture removals.
Surgical Skills—monitor anesthesia, prepare patients, instruments and equipment for surgery, assist in surgery (when needed), perform dental prophy, monitor patients during recovery.
Patient Nursing –perform minimal data base (TPR) for patients and monitor hospitalized patients.
Patient Treatments--calculate dosages (with assistance from DVM), dispense and administer medications, vaccines, and other treatments as prescribed by DVM.
Medical Records – makes notes in patient files of phone or in-person conversations and transcribing subjective histories and treatment recommendations into the medical record, maintain surgical and controlled drug logs.
Communication – assist answering tech phone calls, obtain histories from clients, accurately relay patient information, and educate clients on products, food, and preventative care.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High School or Equivalent Degree is required. Advanced training in the veterinary technical field is preferred.
Strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure, work independently, and accept direction.
Excellent people skills, i.e., friendly, outgoing, compassionate, and active team member.
Excellent verbal and written communication. * Proficient computer skills and ability to learn our veterinary operating software: Impromed.
Ability to properly lift up to 50 pounds with and sometimes without assistance.
One to seven+ years of job experience at a veterinary practice.
A negative drug test is also required before beginning employment at The Village Vets.
Additional Salary Information: Pay is negotiable based on experience.
