Our practice is located in Chesapeake, Virginia, along the Intracoastal Waterway and rich in history and great outdoor activities. We’re just minutes from Virginia Beach Oceanfront and a short drive to the North Carolina Outer Banks.

Barker Animal Hospital is a progressive, small animal hospital. We are driven by our goal to provide high-quality, compassionate veterinary care valued by our clients. We focus on educating and empowering our clients to seek out and provide their pets the best care to ensure a happy, healthy life. Our new facility is well equipped with the tools required to practice modern, high-quality veterinary medicine. We love providing individualized care and attention to our clients, and we like to have fun while we do it too!

Qualifications

• Completion of a 2-year AVMA accredited veterinary technician program required
• License to practice as a Veterinary Technician in the state of Virginia
• Knowledge of animal behavior
• Have an outgoing, positive attitude
• Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and continuous learning
• Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives
• Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail

What You’ll Be Working On

• Contribute by delivering high-quality care to our patients
• Engaging and communicating with clients to deliver excellence in service
• Educate clients on proper care and treatment for their pets to live their healthiest lives
• Assist the doctor start to finish with patient treatments, procedures and activities
• Care for and monitor patient during and recovering from surgery
• Obtain quality samples for diagnostic testing
• Perform in-house x-ray and laboratory procedures to assist in diagnosis and treatment
• Perform surgery room and equipment preparations as well as post-operation sterilization and cleaning
• Perform dental prophylaxis and full mouth series radiographs.
• Prepare and administer medications, vaccines or treatments under guide of doctor
• Administer anesthetics or sedatives to control pain under direction of a doctor
• Maintaining patient medical records.
• Assist in teaching your fellow veterinary team members in techniques and care.
