VCA takes pride in expanding the growth and skill set of new veterinarians. We welcome newly graduated veterinarians (and current veterinary students) to apply to this position where they will receive individualized support with our 6-month mentorship program and a collaborative hospital team environment.
Burrstone Animal Hospital has a highly dedicated experienced staff that fully support all of their doctors. We perform surgical procedures 5 days a week. Open 5 days/week, no on-call hours, schedule includes 4 days/week (Mon-Fri). There are 2 twenty-four hour emergency clinics within an hours’ drive, and Cornell University is within 2 hours of driving.
Our hospital features a unique combination of the latest in technologies from digital radiography, ultrasound, laser therapy, and yet we maintain a “family-style” feel with our clients. With a comprehensive in-house laboratory at our disposal- and same day Antech Laboratory results- our staff is committed to the care of each pet and client who walks in through our doors- often greeting them by name and forming relationships that go beyond just a vaccine schedule.
The immediate area supports a wide variety of shopping centers as well as many of the “big city” amenities without the crowded big city feel. Locally, there is the AZA accredited Utica Zoo, the historic Stanley Theater which features Broadway shows throughout the season, a regional fine arts school and art museum which offers art classes and workshops to all ages, and a myriad of unique cafes, bake shops, and breweries.
We are located at the foothills of the Adirondack mountains and our local New Hartford Schools are ranked some of the highest in the country. We are an hour from Syracuse and 1.5 hours from Albany, both large cities! We have a professional hockey team (The Utica Comets), several community colleges as well as our private university, Utica College, many community events including the Boilermaker road race (where runners come from all over the world to participate), the Stanley Theater which provides off Broadway plays, as well as some of the best Italian restaurants in the country!
In just a short drive, you can be hiking through the Adirondacks, boating on Delta Lake, or enjoying a fun carnival day at Sylvan Beach.

Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The annual salary range for this position is $150K- $175K. This position may also be eligible for other variable pay programs.
