- Veterinary Externship Opportunity - Mixed Rural Practice
Description
If you're a veterinary student looking to gain diverse, hands-on experience in a rural mixed-animal practice, our externship is an excellent opportunity!
We are a busy, two-doctor mixed-animal practice located in Raton, New Mexico. Our caseload includes a high volume of small animal patients, along with a thriving equine reproduction service from February through July, including breeding management and foaling. We also work with beef cattle, performing numerous dystocia cases during the spring calving season, and regularly care for a variety of other species—yes, even the occasional baby camel!
Our veterinarians are passionate about mentoring the next generation of veterinary professionals. We strive to provide students with meaningful, hands-on experience and real-world clinical exposure that builds confidence and prepares them for a successful career in veterinary medicine. Students are encouraged to participate in appointments, surgeries, emergencies, and field calls whenever appropriate, gaining valuable experience across a wide range of species and cases.
Nestled at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near the Colorado border, Raton offers the charm of a small rural community with easy access to hiking, fishing, mountain biking, skiing, and other outdoor recreation.
If you're interested in rural mixed-animal practice and want an externship that offers variety, mentorship, and plenty of opportunities to learn by doing, we'd love to have you join us!
