We are seeking an experienced Small Animal Urgent Care Veterinarian who desires to practice high-quality medicine in a supportive environment while helping lead and develop our growing urgent care program.
Position Summary
The Small Animal Urgent Care Veterinarian will provide high-quality medical care for urgent and emergent cases that present outside of normal business hours. This individual will work collaboratively with our experienced veterinary team to diagnose, treat, and manage a wide variety of urgent care conditions while delivering exceptional client communication and patient care.
The ideal candidate is an experienced clinician who enjoys problem-solving, works well under pressure, mentors support staff and younger veterinarians, and aligns with the mission and values of Michiana Veterinary Hospital.
Schedule
Full-Time Position
Urgent Care Hours: Tuesday-Friday 6:00pm-12:00am, Saturday and Sunday 3:00pm-9:00pm
Six shifts per week
Off Monday
Scheduling flexibility may be available for the right candidate.
Essential Responsibilities
Patient Care
Evaluate, diagnose, and treat urgent and emergent small animal cases
Develop treatment plans based on patient needs and client goals
Perform urgent medical procedures and surgeries as appropriate
Provide pain management and supportive care
Maintain accurate and thorough medical records
Client Communication
Educate clients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, prognoses, and follow-up care
Demonstrate empathy and professionalism during emotionally challenging situations
Build trust through clear and compassionate communication
Leadership & Team Development
Mentor veterinary technicians, assistants, and support staff
Serve as a positive role model for professional excellence
Help establish and refine urgent care protocols and standards
Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
Collaboration
Work closely with daytime veterinarians to ensure continuity of care
Coordinate referrals when specialty or emergency care is indicated
Participate in hospital initiatives and team meetings as appropriate

Requirements
Qualifications
Required
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent)
Licensed or eligible for licensure in Michigan
Minimum of three (3) years of small animal clinical experience
Strong diagnostic and medical case management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the healthcare team
Preferred
Experience in emergency or urgent care medicine
Ultrasonography proficiency
Surgical experience appropriate for urgent care cases
Leadership and mentoring experience
